Some really good poo stories!!

*Warning* Do not proceed to follow these links unless you have the sense of humour of a 10 year old boy. Bathroom humour at its finest.

My sister Margaret is a nurse. In fact, all the ladies in my families have been nurses at one time or another (most retired now except for Joan). Nurses like to talk frankly about things. And by god, they really obsess about bowel movements. Know what I mean?

Anyway, one day we were driving somewhere and Joan was telling us about a colleague of hers who had been diagnosed with bowel cancer. He’d had symptoms for ages but not acted on them. Margaret said in frustration and disgust “if more people talked about their poop, there would be a lot less death from this kind of cancer. Why won’t people talk about their poop?!”

Well, Margaret, you will happy to know that I’ve found a great lot of people that revel in talking about poop. In the UK they seem to call it ‘poo’ but, you know, same thing! I wouldn’t be suprised if bowel cancer was rarely seen there.

Anyway, here are a couple of posts that literally had me crying I was laughing so hard. (Apparently I DO have the sense of humour of a ten year old boy!).

First, Toxic Soup’s blog is written by a woman most aptly known as funny thing. She is indeed very funny and here is her poo story.

Next, D-Flat Chime Bar’s blog is written by my dear friend Surly Girl. Her blog is one of my favorite places to visit. Whether its funny, sad, poignant, biting…the writing is always good. In this poo post, she wrote a bit, but it was really her commenters that got rolling with stories. Very funny. Go see.

Lastly, I know a very talented writer in the US, who is, like me, reluctant to blog about poo. But she did it, and did a fine job too. The Whinger, from Whinging it, is a fabulous writer and you should go read her at every opportunity! Here is her poo story.

Go on now. Have a good laugh. Its good for your health.

Well, I know that a bowel movement (nurse-speak) is an excellent thing to have, because I couldn’t leave the hospital after my last surgery until I had one. And before I had one, my tummy was making the most fascinating noises I’ve ever heard in my life – little chirps and ticks and happy noises. It was just incredible. No pain, no “feeling” of any type, but those little chirpy noises… ah, the sound of a happy human body glad to be back at work. I do understand nurses’ fascination with it. Sure sign of things working as they should.

Thanks for the link, kg ๐Ÿ™‚

Poo. It’s a great subject. I’m amazed at the response from non-Brits… I thought everyone talked about it.

Ah well, I suppose we’re just classy.

My mom was a nurse too, and since she was raised in England, it was poo, around our house.
    Too funny.

  6. Whinger says:

    Thanks for the link, ma’am.
I would like to point out that my poo story is not about MY poo, as I don’t. Poo, that is.

  7. Whinger IS a fabulous writer. ๐Ÿ™‚ As are the other folks you’ve mentioned.

Nurses are so funny. They know about EVERYTHING. More than doctors, seems like.

The excrement-inclined reader may also find humor at http://doodie.com/ should they need further entertainment.

  9. frangelita says:

Kids have got it right, poo is funny. To ensure everyone knows when we have to go at work, we have to go and get the only key to the bathroom, like saying hey guys, I need a shit.

  10. Mrs Aginoth says:

Apparently the scandinavians have the lowest incidence of bowel cancer & the highest inceidence of both looking at & talking about their poo!

honestly, most people check what they have done, most times they do it. they actually have special tiolets that have a little ledge in them so you can catch the poo & know that you’ll be able to check it out when you’ve finished.

The people that know such things say it’s due to their diet, which is historically high in fish. Can’t remember what that’s got to do with it though.

Although we are quite happy to discuss the types of poo in the pub with a bunch of mates here in the UK too:-)

    ft-isn’t this cultural exchange interesting?

MEOW-glad you could get the laugh you needed.

Stacy-I know, guys seem more inclined to be proud of their output!

    logo-another nurse daughter-you get it don’t you?

Whinger-no, definitely, I would never imply that you actually poo, god forbid!!

    Star-you’re right, nurses know EVERYTHING!!

Romerican-thanks the link-pretty gross, pretty funny!

Fran-I don’t envy your work bathroom situation.

Zydeco Fish-great story-I could really visualize you all standing around in the bathroom dealing with an irate, somewhat unbalanced mother (that’s a common state of mind for most mothers!)

Mrs. A-you’re right-we’re all different from country to country ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. IDV says:
