La Belle et la Bête

May was a busy month with helping the grade 2 class do final preparations for their production of Beauty and the Beast. They put the production on 3 times at the Dow Centennial Center,20370_dcc.jpg

for hundreds of school kids and hundreds of proud parents and grandparents. Not that most of us understood it since it was all in French!

I helped make costumes (with my new found sewing talent-yikes) and spent a weekend with some other parents making sets. Its amazing what you can come up with some untalented but motivated parents and a fridge full of beer 🙂

We made each piece so it could be part of the village scenery on one side and part of the castle on the other. In the pictures below, the village house on the left, when spun around, becomes the ballroom in the castle (the picture below it.)

The kids did a great job. Most learned two roles and they switched around for each production. Nicole was a wolf and a dentist in all three shows. She loved having a part but not having to say any lines.

Brilliant set design. If they make a movie of my life, your daughter can play Walela.

  2. Kyahgirl says:

Doug-she’d be honored; *woof*. By the way, who would you have play you? Willie? Papa Pascover? Your blogging friends?

  3. tanlucypez says:

Cool sets! If “they” make a movie of Doug’s life, can I play his cruel master?

  4. Kyahgirl says:

TLP-definitely! I can envision you as either CatWoman, complete with black bustier and whip or maybe the smokin’, drinkin’, gamblin’ hard ass from that story Doug wrote about you 🙂

  5. Terry says:

Doug has a master? ha ha ha ha ha

  6. Terry says:

Those pics of the play, and of your cute daughter will be treasured artifacts many years from now 😀

Wow, what a lot of work … glad it turned out well.. I love watching productions, when you have put in so much work. I usually get roped in to making costumes, and stuff, too.
    Take care, Meow

  11. Kyahgirl says:

Terry, don’t take this wrong but I’d say he has as mistress. Her name is Walela. 🙂
And yes, I agree about the play….treasured memories.

Meow-see, I’m not alone in this!

Ariel-the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, she’s just like her mom 🙂

Wiersdo-I bet you’ve done your share of those too, eh?

Neva-I mentioned ‘talent’ with a bit of an eyeroll. You can’t see that from Connecticut!
And dang, I was hoping you’d forget I was CatWoman. I guess TLP will have to be the gambler.

Great new design. Long time, no visit… thanks for stopping by. I threw out my sewing machine a long time ago… and therefore, couldn’t keep sewing all the play costumes! The set designs are wonderful, wonderful!!!

Am in the process of moving from NYC… Will pick up later. Cheers.

Yo Momma – you have been busy!
You were always a good artist and it’s great to see the product of your labour. The kids must have been very proud of their sets and their costumes.

Aw, I missed all the casting. TLP, Kyah’s right. And Neva’s right. Catwoman is Kyah. You can play the bully who beat me up in the fourth grade.
