Last day of Holidays today. Urgh…back to work soon.

Most of the time when I take holidays it’s so we can go camping. This is the first time I’ve been home for almost two weeks without actually going anywhere. Its been a nice break and a chance to do some thinking about my life/job/career/future plans.

Back in September, in a moment of zealeous participation, I agreed to be the Treasurer for the kids’ school advisory committee. The committee does all the fundraising for the school and helps provide ‘extras’ that just aren’t in the budget. They didn’t actually hand over the books until the end of November and then I found out a financial report was due to the gaming commission at the end of December. Well, I missed the deadline and they gave me an extension, recognizing that all these councils are run by volunteers who don’t know much about anything. So, I spent my day today, sorting through mounds of paper, trying to figure out the system the previous treasurer used (no actual bookkeeping ‘books’ were used). I think I’ve got it now and have rearranged it all, put it into Excel and hopefully filled out the report correctly. (Did you know that in Alberta, schools can apply to work at a Casino and get a share of the profits? This is how the Government justifies running the gambling in the province and taking a hefty share of the proceeds. )
Well, this is a fairly garbled post but that is where is my head is today.
I’m going to dust off a few more binders and finish re-organizing all this paper so I can actually do the Treasurer thing -)

ahem: just to clarify; the children don’t actually work at the Casino, the parents volunteer! Wouldn’t that be a riot? little kids dealing ‘vingt-et-un’ and such (embarrassed to admit I’ve never actually been inside a casino so don’t know what ‘and such’ entails).

well done on taking on the job & on sorting it out. I would never take on the treasurers job, although I’ve been a volunteer secretary a few times which involves lots of typing!

Mstr A’s school, attached to the church, doesn’t allow any gambling or drinking on site or using the schools name. Even for the fete we’re restricted on how many “games of chance” we can offer (Raffles etc). Just how are we supposed to raise money do you think?

colombina-we have all kinds of ways to raise money!
mom-enjoy your visit at Margaret’s house. that keyboard is really troublesome!!
Mrs. A-I don’t know. Its always a challenge, must be even worse when you’re attached to a church.
Mireille-thank you for the insight into my career change issue. I wouldn’t have thought of it but now I see possibilities. I think it would Clive all the way, along with the slinky black dress

I can *totally* picture you all decked-out and gorgeous, running a table!

When I was in the high-school chorus, the Boosters (parental fund-raising group) worked the boxes at the local racetrack (NASCAR. *shudder*) to raise money for our annual trip. Luckily, we kids weren’t allowed to!

The kids would probably do it better!
I’m so impressed by your treasuring. I never dared commit myself to anything so serious when my kids were at school etc.
    Too scatty by half!

Dear Mother Hen – thanks so much for that great link to all the olfactory sites.
Chanel No 5 has to be the worlds most well known scent name, and I find it amusing that the Chanel camellia symbol is a scentless bloom. Personally No 5 leaves me cold but I adore spicy Coco, Calvin Klein Obsession and Lentheric Tweed.
One of the Dior florals gives me an instant headache as does the Tiffany scent.
If I smell Je Reviens I am instantly hurtled back to the 1960’s. aromatherapy. xxx
